Ieuan Evans

Ieuan Evans was a former British Lion and captain of the Welsh rugby team.



He was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Carmarthen, and Salford University where he obtained a B.A. in geography and was later awarded an honorary M.A.  He has also been awarded a Fellowship of the University of Wales, Cardiff, and received an MBE in 1996 for services to sport in general and rugby football in particular.  He is also a member of the Bardic Circle (Gorsedd). After leaving university, Ieuan worked for a short period for the National Trust and then for a number of years for the Bank of Wales, whilst continuing with an amateur rugby career.  He turned to full time rugby professionally in 1996 and played with Llanelli Rugby Football Club and afterwards, until retirement, with Bath Rugby Football Club where he won a European Cup Winners medal.


Following his retirement from professional rugby in the early part of 1999, Ieuan, through the medium of his private company, Ieuan Evans Communications Limited, has been developing his media and other interests in South Wales and is currently a presenter with HTV Wales.  Amongst his clients are HTV, Sinclair Garages Limited, Scottish & Southern plc, BBC, the Sunday Telegraph and other media companies. He is also an advisory member of the Government Environmental Advisory Body.

 

Light, anecdotal and experienced, Ieuan is comfortable in the widest variety of surroundings and occasions.  Ieuan is capable of tailoring content of his speech to the audience and has contributed to events from the smallest corporate lunch / dinner to the largest scale sporting functions across the UK.
